Interpupillary distance (IPD): Simply put, it's the distance between the pupils. For myopic patients, it's one of the essential measurements when getting glasses.
Many people believe that the IPD changes with age, but this is incorrect.
So, does the IPD change? What causes an increase or decrease in the IPD? Let's take a look.
The increase or decrease in the IPD is not directly related to other external factors. This is because the IPD is the distance between the pupils of the eyes, and its distance is related only to the distance between the eyes, not to other external factors.
In other words, an increase or decrease in the IPD does not change due to long-term glasses wearing or aging. It is a normal condition of the eyes and generally does not change.

However, some patients report experiencing frequent eye pain and dizziness when wearing glasses. This, however, has nothing to do with an increase or decrease in pupillary distance.

It could be due to a change in eye prescription, inaccurate eye examinations, or improper glasses, which can cause eye pain.

Based on the above analysis, we know that an increase or decrease in pupillary distance is not related to external factors.

If this condition does occur, it can only be related to pathological changes in the eye, such as changes in intraocular tissue composition, which can cause pupil displacement and, in turn, an increase or decrease in pupillary distance.
