Many people fear that wearing glasses with a high prescription will worsen their nearsightedness, so they simply get a lower prescription themselves. However, with a lower prescription, the eyes need more self-adjustment to maintain normal vision. Over time, this can easily lead to eye strain, causing nearsightedness to continue to increase, while the effectiveness of vision correction remains at a low level. This is also a major cause of amblyopia.
What if your prescription for nearsightedness is too low?
Of course, you should immediately get a new pair with the correct prescription!
If you can't adapt to the higher light intensity when you first get your glasses, you can slightly lower the prescription, but once you've adapted, you must get the full prescription. Otherwise, it can seriously harm your vision and eye health.
Undercorrection and overcorrection both put unnecessary strain on your eyes.
Claims that gradually reducing the prescription can "improve" nearsightedness, or that artificially lowering the prescription can reduce eye strain, are completely unfounded and lack any empirical support.
The eyes have a strong ability to adapt and adjust. For example, if you have a prescription of 400 degrees and are prescribed 450 degrees of glasses, your eyes will eventually adapt to the 450-degree prescription, thus accelerating the progression of your nearsightedness.
Furthermore, intentionally increasing the prescription can cause dizziness, nausea, and other symptoms. Therefore, please, everyone, do not arbitrarily increase or decrease the prescription when getting glasses; it's counterproductive!
